For sure, you can. If you don't know how to setup a mailinglist, you should rather ask for help on a more appropriate mailinglist. What software do you intend to use for managing mailinglists? mailman, sympa, majordomo, ezmlm, or another one? Once you setup your mailinglist to work properly - in a way that every subscribed email adress receives mails to the list - you can bother about the archives.
